Medical Mutual has long been active in lobbying for and developing legislation that helps to protect, preserve and enhance the practice environment in the New England states we serve. Indeed, anyone involved in such efforts will tell you that Medical Mutual is the only carrier in the region whose dedication and support can always be counted on.
At the State level, Medical Mutual recently provided a senior manager to serve on a New Hampshire Senate sub-committee as the primary resource for educating legislators on the benefits of a pre-litigation panel system. Based on Maine’s successful panel system — which is widely credited for helping to contain the cost of litigation in the State — the legislation passed in New Hampshire in 2005.
Other recent initiatives also include participating in a debate with Vermont’s trial attorneys over the need for effective tort reform, as well as supporting the efforts of the Maine Coalition for Healthcare Access and Liability Reform.
At the Federal Level, the Company’s participation as a member of the Physician Insurers Association of America helps provide a unified message before Congress on matters of a national scale.
