Terrance J. Sheehan, M.D. — President/CEO
A founding member-policyholder of Medical Mutual, Terry became President and CEO of the Company in November 2005 after serving as Chief Medical Officer at Southern Maine Medical Center for 14 years. He graduated from Bowdoin College and Tufts University School of Medicine. Following his internship and residency training in pediatrics at Maine Medical Center, he practiced pediatrics in Augusta, Maine for 25 years.
Terry has been actively involved with Medical Mutual since 1988 when he was appointed to the Company's Underwriting Committee. A member of the Company's Board of Directors since 1990, he also served on the Executive Committee and as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice Chair prior to accepting his appointment as President and CEO.
Under Terry's leadership, the Company has significantly grown its educational program offerings as a means of helping to improve quality in the care environment and prevent medical errors. Terry writes and speaks regularly on these subjects, penning a quarterly Commentary column for the Company's Advocate newsletter and speaking often to medical specialty societies and other groups within the healthcare and medical professional liability insurance industries.
