Medical Mutual Insurance Company of Maine was founded in 1978 by a group of 12 physicians in response to a nationwide crisis in the professional medical liability insurance industry. Today, Medical Mutual is recognized as a stabilizing force in the medical communities of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The Company entered the Massachusetts market in 2012 to support existing clients who also provide care in the Bay State and to begin serving physicians and hospitals whose culture and values — their approaches to patient care, their focus on quality and their appreciation for risk management initiatives – are in line with Medical Mutual's. Because it offers insurance for all specialties, thus ensuring not just protection for a market-leading number of physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers in the region, but also ensuring medical care itself to all who live, work and play here.
With a physician leading the company as President and CEO, a board of directors, as well as active claims and underwriting committees comprised predominantly of physicians and hospital executives, the Company could not be more true to its roots.
